Convergence Group increases its capability to provide high capacity scalable data services in three year deal
Solihull, August 2011 – Convergence Group Networks Ltd, a leading IP and network provider that provides services to bandwidth intensive industries including media and technology, has agreed a second deal with Geo Networks Ltd (Geo). Geo will provide a 36km network to carry voice, web and video traffic using Geo fibre in London’s sewer network.
Following the successful implementation of a the first project between the two companies, a dark fibre connection between two London data centres last year, the new backhaul network will connect the data centres to the major broadcasting hub in the BT Tower.
“We have an ever growing base of clients that have high bandwidth traffic and critical live data travelling on our routes. That’s why our SLAs are underpinned with the promise of more than 99% reliability and incredibly high data speeds,” said Neal Harrison, Managing Director, Convergence Group. “We are committed to providing choice and flexibility throughout our customers’ lifecycle, whether they join us for specific media solutions or need additional global networking solutions. Geo’s fibre gives us the control we require to scale up our customers’ business as and when required.”
The fibre will essentially provide Convergence Group with its own infrastructure, on which it can install and manage its own or third party equipment to light the fibre. Initially Convergence Group will light 10Gb/s, but will be able to add extra capacity rapidly and at little additional cost. The fibre will also provide an alternative to the current facility lines available into BT Tower, eliminating the need to compress or decompress content for a superior end-user experience.
“As Neal points out, service providers need to know that their network availability is the one thing that they can rely on, leaving them to focus on their service offering,” said Geo Chief Executive Chris Smedley. “We have an excellent delivery record with Convergence Group and they know that our network is proven at carrying high-capacity traffic from broadcast organisations with Geo carrying traffic from ITV and BBC amongst others.”
“The fact that Geo allows us to manage our network our way is crucial,” continues Harrison. “But Geo’s outstanding network statistics for 2010 are rare for fibre networks, particularly in urban areas. Knowing the Geo network in London is one of the most secure and reliable in the country was key in our decision to go with Geo. Our customer promise requires nothing less.”
The network is due for completion this August.
